To be honest I am a little confused to what to think of Cadbury. I think it’s great that there Dairy Milk Chocolate is Fair Trade and I fully support the Fair Trade organisation. But I’ve got to question how only the Milk Chocolate is Fair Trade. The fact that all of the Chocolate is made in the same two factories but only a small percentage of it is Fair Trade is a little worrying and I have to question it a bit! I do wonder whether it is the money from the Dairy Milk Chocolate that is making it Fair Trade, but if it is then what about all of the other chocolate Cadbury produce? How do they divide up the money between all of the Cocoa farms that they buy from?
The fact that Cadbury ‘recycles’ is a bit of a joke personally. I think it’s great that they are investing in recycling but I think they could improve in how they do it if they are going to get serious. I think a good way to do this is make there packaging recyclable. Also when they do this to advertise that it is recyclable in public as well as on their product. At the moment there product has a symbol on it saying to put in the bin rather than on the ground.
Another thing that I think is a little suss about Cadbury Australia is the fact that the Cocoa Mass is made overseas in Singapore. I think that if they are doing this ethically sound then the only problem with this is the fact that extra transport is need causing more pollution. The thing is that I don’t know that it is ethically sound or not. Cadbury are open to the fact that they produce Cocoa Mass there but don’t publish why.
I am not quite sure whether to Boycott Cadbury or not. I think there is a lot of room for improvement and it would be great if all of their products could be Fair Trade and they were open to why they produce some of the product in Singapore. I think that we all need to encourage Cadbury to be completely Fair Trade and to make Recyclable Packaging.
